COMMUNITY, DEMOCRACY COME TOGETHER AT CONSTITUTION SQUARE
History comes to life each Saturday morning on the lawn of the History Museum at the Castle when the League of Women Voters invites the community to Constitution Square. Visitors add their signatures to the Preamble, take selfies with Lady Liberty, test their civics knowledge, "vote" on the state and national issues most important to them, and test their steady hands — and meaning of democracy-related terms — at Pillars of Democracy.
Recently, League and civic leaders, historians and community collaborators took on the roles of figures from history, reading excerpts from civil and voting rights speeches.
Constitution Square will continue during downtown Farm Market hours each Saturday through the end of August, and be revisited during Octoberfest.
