Welcome to the League of Women Voters of Appleton-Fox Cities, Wisconsin

The League of Women Voters is a peoples' organization that has fought since 1920 to improve our government and engage all Americans in the decisions that impact their lives. We operate at national, state and local levels through more than 800 state and local Leagues, in all 50 states as well as in DC, the Virgin Islands and Hong Kong. We never endorse or oppose political parties or candidates, but we are political.

The League encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

The League is guided by two foundational policies, in both principle and in practice: the League is nonpartisan, and fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Nonpartisan

The League is nonpartisan in that it does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for public office. It is political in that it promotes League-supported public policy issues.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

LWV is an organization fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in principle and in practice. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the organization’s current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities, and policy makers in creating a more perfect democracy.

Engage to Be Heard

The League is most effective at serving the interests, needs and ideas of diverse people in our communities when these individuals participate in the League. We welcome fresh perspectives, fresh voices, fresh energy. We hope you’ll consider becoming a League member, and respectfully engage in dialog with other members.

A Voice for All

The League is different from many organizations in that what it accomplishes comes directly from the involvement of its members. It is a grassroots organization providing every member with opportunities to learn and share what they’ve learned about government, and take action on public policy. We walk our talk: we believe that we need everyone to participate in order for our community, state, and country to be strong, safe and vibrant.

Lively Issues

Each year, League members bring issues of importance to our communities to a session we call Lively Issues. We learn what is of concern to our members, what they need, what civic action they want to see take place.

From that conversation, we develop and select study topics to be better informed and gather a wide range of perspectives. We listen. We learn. Out of these studies we form positions, which then define our activities and actions.

We learn effective techniques for respectful public discussion, how to advocate on specific policies. Our study and consensus process ensures that we are fully informed on issues before we take a stand.

Learn from the League

Your participation in League will expose you to a breadth of experiences and issues that will not only inform you but create greater possibilities for civic engagement than you might imagine. You can spend as much or as little time as you wish. We offer our members webinars, workshops, town halls and forums throughout the year at the local, regional, state and national levels.

Growing Support

We welcome your support. Whether you contribute your time, your money, or both, you can feel confident that your investment in democracy goes further in the League. Here's how to invest in the League.
