LWV Appleton-Fox Cities Action

Advocacy is also known as “Action” in the League of Women Voters. We believe “government of the people” means letting your voice be heard on issues of importance — taking action beyond Election Day. Action takes many forms: contacting elected representatives, rallying around issues, writing letters to the editor, asking questions at town hall forums, speaking at public meetings. League encourages all our members and all citizens to take action on every issue that matters in their lives — keeping our democracy strong.

Before the League takes action as an organization, we first research, study, discuss, and reach consensus on an issue. This process creates “support positions” which guide our advocacy as an organization. For over 100 years, national, state, and local support positions have informed every “action” taken by the League. The “study and action” process has earned LWV our reputation for fairness and thoroughness.

On the local level, our LWV action and advocacy have a rich history. From City garbage pick-up to recycling, from new public schools to a new library, from affordable housing to a strong downtown — LWV Appleton-Fox Cities “action” has strengthened our community for many decades. Our Observer Corps keeps eyes on local government sharing reports with League leaders which keep our advocacy timely. Our Executive Action Team includes members already highly engaged in local government who help us have an ear to the ground on emerging issues. Hosting regular Legislative Town Hall Listening Sessions provides citizens with the chance to ask questions of our regional state representatives.

Are you “action-oriented”? Join our Observer Corps, respond to our Action Alerts, or use this website to Stay Informed on big issues facing us. Together we will make a difference in our community. Contact us at
