Did you know that at least 40% of our community members are cost-burdened (defined as those who spend more that 30% of their monthly expenses on housing) by their housing expenses — and over 50% of our residents are low income? Always a hot topic with our League, providing affordable housing is now in the cross-hairs for our regional governments. American Rescue Plan Act dollars are being leveraged by Outagamie County ($3.5million) and Appleton ($3million) to help those in need while a public/private Housing Advisory Task Force is being created.

Our October 17 program will address our community’s needs, uncover some personal stories about housing challenges, and discuss housing priorities being set by our local governments.   Participating guests include Kari Kuiper (Program Manager at Outagamie County Housing Authority), Karen Harkness (Appleton Director of Community and Economic Development), and Jessica Burns (Post-Crescent Personal Finance Reporter) to discuss the issue from their perspectives.

For those curious about the Housing Strategy for Fox Cities and Greater Outagamie County, you can find it here: https://www.outagamie.org/government/departments-a-e/development-and-land-services/comprehensive-planning-special-projects/housing-strategy

Remember that we're meeting at Grand Chute Park & Community Building/ TOWN CENTER PARK building - Room A (1850 W Grand Chute Blvd, north of the Grand Chute Town Hall) for those who will attend in person.
